Ulaanbaatar city centre is finally being renovated

After years of neglect, the 40,000 area of the city centre is now being rejuvenated by the city of Ulaanbaatar.

The heart of the Ulaanbaatar city centre is made up of what is commonly referred to as the 40K apartments, they are by far the best quality of construction in the city (even to this day with a few exceptions) but the crumbling exterior appearance has always put off a number of buyers, now that the entire area is being renovated (with a distinctly European feel) the area is sure to become more attractive (and pricey) yet.

All roads, pavements and exteriors of the 40k buildings are being redone with haste, every building is covered in scaffolding and workers are working 7 days a week to complete the entire area prior to winter setting in.

This further dispels rumours that the city of Ulaanbaatar is attempting to pull down those older buildings to build a “new” city centre.

The most noticeable renovation is taking place on Tserendorj Street (Central Avenue) as not only has the street been re-tarmaked, the buildings repainted and the pavements re-done, the central plaza is being entirely redone with new fountains, trees and benches.

We are of course leading up to an election year so the city is spending money before poll time but never the less those improvement efforts must be applauded.
