Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj Sunday exchanged views with Mr Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) on the Mongolia-UN relations and cooperation and on international issues.
This meeting ran within the Mongolian leader's participation in the 68th assembly of the UN which started September 17 in New York, USA. This year’s session has brought together State Heads of 120 countries, Prime Ministers of 49 countries and Foreign Ministers of 42 countries.
Congratulating Mr Elbegdorj on being re-elected the President of Mongolia, the UN Secretary-General underlined that Mongolia has been active in developing and forwarding the democracy, in supporting women’s participation, in solving climate changes' issues and in protecting rights of the landlocked countries.
Mr Ban also emphasized that Mongolia successfully chaired the Community of Democracies (CoD) and hosted the 7th Ministerial Conference of the CoD last April in Ulaanbaatar. He highly spoke a contribution of Mongolia to the UN peacekeeping operations. "I really thank You for getting familiarized with the peacekeeping operations in Sudan," Mr Ban stressed.
In response, the President expressed a gratitude to the UN for assistance and support given to Mongolia in realizing the developmental goals, and noted Mongolia wants to actively take part in actions of the international community.
The dignitaries shared views on a present situation of the Northeast Asia, one of the critical regions in the world.
"Developing the ties and cooperation with Asian countries and being involved in the regional integration are the principal goals of Mongolia’s foreign policy," Mr Elbegdorj said. It is of importance to ensure the security in Northeast Asia so that the Asia-Pacific states can intensify a cooperation and create a sustainable development in a way of accelerating the integration, he said. In frames of its goals to expand bilateral and multilateral collaboration with the region's states and to activate the dialogues, Mongolia has put forward an initiative on holding the Ulaanbaatar Talks on Security in Northeast Asia, Mr Elbegdorj added.
Mr Ban expressed thanks to Mongolia for actively participating in the international community’s activities, and said he is confident that our country will contribute to tackling of many problems facing the international community. He said UN is to back all activities to be initiated by Mongolia and will collaborate with Mongolia in them, he stressed.
