New Year’s party to be held at Sukhbaatar Square
Mayor G.Munkhbayar has announced that a New Year’s Eve party will be held this year at Sukhbaatar Square
Public New Year’s parties have not been held in recent years due to outbreaks of influenza in the capital. But the mayor said 2011 is a year of important anniversaries in Mongolia, so a party will be held at Sukhbaatar Square.
The Mayor’s Office and the Social Democracy Youth Union are jointly organizing the “Ulaanbaatar Mungun Udesh” party. Six districts of the capital and city agencies will assist with the arrangements. All districts will give performances and report on their achievements in 2011. There will also be art exhibits, singers and bands, and Prime Minister S.Batbold will deliver a greeting at midnight. Organizers say fireworks will be banned to prevent injuries, but there will be an official fireworks display that will last for a long time. Hot tea and coffee will be available throughout the evening.
