Mongolia is set to introduce a ‘Tansag Shirhegt’ trademark for its fur and cashmere wool items to earn recognition for producers of these items in the world market.

To address this issue, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MFALI) proposed to develop a trademark and logo for Mongolian fur and cashmere industry, in association with the Mongolian Fur and Cashmere Union and Agricultural Marketing and Brand Development project of the Asian Development Bank. B Batsetseg, Head Specialist at the Light Industry Strategy Implementation Department of the MFALI, said the name ‘Mongolian Tansag Shirhegt’ meaning ‘Mongolian Luxurious Texture’ will be used for goat cashmere, camel and yak furs. Regarding logo, he said, cashmere is considered ‘king’ of textiles and the same concept has been incorporated in the logo. The name and the logo of the trademark were decided after discussions with more than 60 fur and cashmere producers in Mongolia, he said. The new trademark and logo would be introduced to the world during the 81st International Textile Organization Congress, scheduled to take place in New York from May 7 to May 9, 2012.
